All About Me
February 8, 2000 - I was born five weeks early on Wednesday, January 5, 2000
at 6:34 a.m. and I weighed 5 pounds,14 1/2 ounces and was 18 3/4 inches long. My due date was
February 8. I was delivered by Dr. Francis Perry at
Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. I spent the first few days of my life in the NICU at
Presbyterian, including one night after my parents had to go home. The next
night, Mama and Daddy "roomed-in" with me at the hospital, and we all went
home together on Sunday, January 9. For a few days, I had a home health
nurse come to the house, just to see me, and I slept all day under bili lights
because I had a little jaundice. I got over it quickly, though.
My first week at home, my weight dropped a few ounces and some of the
jaundice came back, because my little mouth wasn't big enough to nurse
quite right. We started using Prosobee formula, like we did in the hospital,
but I kept nursing too. My little mouth makes nursing hurt Mama some, but
we're keeping it up, because I'll grow! Then we'll work back to nursing only.
It didn't take long for me to beat the jaundice a second time by eating lots
and sunbathing naked in front of windows. When I went back to see my
pediatrician for my one month appointment, she said that I was up to 7
pounds and was 19 1/2 inches long. Everyone was proud of me for my
improvement. I turned one month old on Saturday, February 5, three days
before my due date.
April 5, 2000 - Today I turned three months old and I am growing fast! At
my two month check-up, I weighed eight pounds, nine ounces. I got my first
shots then too. Ouch! That night, I slept all night long. I get to go to work with Mama, thanks to the nice people at her job
and thanks to Aunt Jenny, who helps us at work.
We're nursing only now, which makes everyone get a little worried sometimes.
That's why I got weighed at the produce scale in the grocery store last week.
It looked like it read about nine pounds, but I was yelling pretty hard, and
it wasn't easy to tell!
May 11, 2000 - I'm still such a little thing. I went in for my four month appointment
on May 5, and I weighed eight pounds, 14 1/2 ounces. My pediatrician said that I needed to
grow more, so now I get to eat rice cereal twice a day and I get to have a few bottles, in
addition to Mama's milk. Mama says we're going to try stop using bottles when I get to growing
again! On Wednesday, May 10, we went to see a nice lady who is a RN and an IBCLC
(Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and she said we were doing the right
things and to stay on track. She weighed me too - would you believe nine pounds, nine ounces?
I'm going back to see my pediatrician on Friday. I bet she'll be impressed!
I'm making a lot of noises now that aren't fussing or crying and Mama and Daddy and Aunt Jenny
like that a whole lot. I like to listen to stories now, too, and me and Daddy watch television
together when Mama's not around to stop us.
My other big news is that after my doctor's visit on May 5, I started sleeping at night time a
lot more, which is good news for everybody. I usually have my cereal about 9 p.m., then I
nurse until I fall asleep. Mama puts me in my bassinet about 10:30 p.m. and I generally sleep
until 4 a.m., when I have a snack in bed with Mama and Daddy and I get to stay with them until
morning! It's a nice way to get ready for my day.
May 13, 2000 - What is the problem with all these scales? At the doctor's office, I
weighed nine pounds, seven ounces. Still, the doctor was very pleased with my progress. I'm
up to 22 1/4 inches, too! We go back in two weeks.
June 27, 2000 - I am growing like a weed now! When I went back for my appointment, I
weighed in at 11 pounds, 10 ounces and I was 22 3/4 inches long. I'm filling my 0-3 size
clothes up good!
I've started creeping too. I can pull my little self quite a ways if Mama and Daddy are coaxing
me and if I've got a mind to go. I can roll over from my back to my tummy, too. As for
bedtime, I go to bed in the bassinet in my very own room about 10 p.m., and then I stay there
until about 6 a.m. or so. Daddy brings me to the big bed then, for breakfast.
Speaking of eating, I've started in on vegetables. I eat carrots, peas, green beans, squash and
sweet potatoes. I also like my cereal; I've had rice, barley, oatmeal and rice with bananas.
Yum! I get a little diluted apple juice too, in my sippy cup.
One of the most exciting new things in my life are toys. I have figured out how to get toys and
hold toys. I like to shake rattles, look at books, and grab my stuffed animals. I especially
like to put everything in my mouth, including the fur I pull out of of Pal and Drumm, our
kitties.
I will be a half year old on July 5, 2000.
August 25, 2000 - The last few weeks have gone by in a flash! I am sitting up, scooting
all over the house and eating Rice Chex and Cheerios all by myself. I like all kinds of crackers
and breads. Fruits are wonderful, especially jarred strawberries and blueberries. I drink all
kinds of delicious juices in my cup.
I started going to Epworth Methodist Daycare for part of the day on Tuesdays, when Mama is
putting together the Tuttle paper at the Express-Star. It's different, but there are a lot of new toys and new babies to play with. Plus, Mama
always comes at lunchtime to nurse me and hold me for an hour. I like that.
Mama weighed me this morning, and I weighed 16 pounds. I am such a big girl!
October 8, 2000 - Now I've started pulling up and "cruising" around
the house while I hang on to the couch, the coffee table or whatever is handy.
I can crawl like a pro and I love to get into cabinets and drawers.
I have also discovered that Mama is the most wonderful person in the world,
and I do not want to be away from her for a moment. Mama is understandably
flattered, but sometimes sneaks away to wash dishes or some other unimportant
task. We all know that she should be playing with me all the time!
I love this time of year. I only wish Mama and Daddy would let me go outside
more in the crisp fall weather...and I wish they wouldn't make me wear my
coat so much. Aren't they silly?
